Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a dedicated Investigator I to join our Equity and Title IX team, where you will play a crucial role in upholding a safe and inclusive campus environment. In this role, you'll investigate and resolve allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and sexual misconduct, ensuring compliance with university policies and government regulations. Your work will involve educating and advising students, faculty, and staff on equity and Title IX matters, as well as providing essential support across the Equity and Title IX Office. Summary of Responsibilities

  • Performs investigations. Receives complaints, prepares investigation plans, identifies, communicates, schedules, and interviews parties and witnesses. Requests and obtains evidence. Prepares and documents interview summaries and shares with parties for review and comment. Updates leadership as needed. Determines and prepares evidence for review and relevancy for inclusion. Drafts and shares report and evidence with parties. Reviews comments, edits report, obtains additional evidence, and finalizes report. Develops and fosters strong working relationships with Title IX and People and Culture staff, the Office of General Counsel (OGC) and other university partners.
  • Thoroughly documents all activities in the electronic filing cabinet. Collaborates with leadership and the OGC to draft and finalize formal reports, reviews, and communications to internal and external parties involved with administering the Title IX process. Leads or assists with party and witness interviews. Stays abreast of current requirements, changes and best practices related to Title IX, University policy, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (SaVE), the Clery Act, and other related job duties.
  • Provide training to Faculty, Staff and Students on laws, regulations, policies and procedures for Title IX as well as harassment, discrimination, and affirmative action. Supports Title IX Coordinator in ensuring compliance of Title IX, Title VII, VAWA, and Clery Act.
  • Liaison for intake, response and administration of incoming questions, concerns, reports, complaints, and communications. Assesses reports for jurisdiction, determines next steps, schedules meetings, and communicates to the reporting party. Communicates, discusses, and administrates the Title IX process with any rights or options. Determines and offers supportive measures as necessary for all parties. Coordinates with appropriate university parties to arrange the supportive measures. Discusses availability of non-university resources with all parties. Ensures timely execution of duties and activities in the Title IX process. Develops and fosters strong working relationships with Title IX and People and Culture staff, other university partners and the Office of General Counsel (OGC).
  • Serves as the Hearing Coordinator to communicate, administer, and schedule review hearings. Ensures review hearings are compliant with university policy. Ensures and confirms all communications, materials and deadlines are compliant with university policy. Coordinates the activities with Title IX, the OGC, the hearing officer, panelists, parties, and advisors to schedule hearing and ensure pre-hearing conference is held. Coordinates the day of review hearing activities, room set up, IT support, recordings, witnesses, logistics, introductions, secure hearing room, etc. Ensures review hearing is completed, documented, and communicated to internal and external parties. Provides cross functional support for other positions in the Equity and Title IX Office. Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in human resources, psychology, counseling, or related field or any combination of equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field. Experience in human resources, employment law, employee relations, EEO, AA, Title IX, Clery, SaVE, VAWA, Title VII of the Civil Rights of 1964, Title II of the ADA, and other similar EEO laws, or a closely related field. Academic setting experience with employee relations, student conduct, or Title IX. Conflict resolution or mediation. Training experience with large groups.
  • ATIXA Certification or related.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge
  • Knowledge of employment law, Title IX, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Clery Act, SaVE, VAWA, ADA, and other relevant laws.
  • Strong PC knowledge including Microsoft office and internet hosted applications.
